Nevertheless, we celebrate
Happy anniversary as we hit some career turbulence.

We did it. We made this newsletter happen for a whole year. I am saying “we,” sweet readers, because the Hater’s Guide doesn’t work without Viewers Like You™ (has PBS trademarked that?). So, happy one-year anniversary to us all!
As alluded to in last Friday’s INS/OUTS, this exciting milestone comes at a very strange time. I learned last week that my core freelance gig, working as the digital editor for a magazine, is being dissolved next month. But I still have quite a bit of work to do for the mag in the meantime, in addition to my other jobs and writing a just-approved (enormous) feature story. Plus, I have long-scheduled travel in the midst of it all. It’s weird to be this busy with work while being this panicked about my finances.
Breaking a sweat for a job that’s about to can you? My loves: This must be what the musicians on the Titanic felt like, continuing to play as the ship went down.
Because my mind has been fluctuating between over-easy and hard-scrambled this last week, I don’t have much of a newsletter for you today. Instead, this is a note of appreciation, and a plea that you’ll stay with me forever!
Once I have a little extra time on my hands next month — provided I don’t transition directly into hanging upside-down from our patio furniture, talking to the dog — I hope to finally tackle some Hater’s Guide projects I’ve been putting off. That includes a redesign of the site, along with creating a physical zine that will be available for purchase. As much as being underemployed stresses me out, I am looking forward to having a little more room to play… and also to hang upside-down while having full-blown conversations with the dog.
I thank you all again for subscribing to this newsletter, and I hope you’ll stick around to see what comes next. There is literally no better time (for my wallet) to become a paid subscriber or to renew your subscription. Or forward to a friend. Or just support me in any weird way you deem appropriate (buy this for me).
Thank you! I love you! I hate everything else!
