What's IN/OUT this week
You're not supposed to be here.

Dave just gestured for me to come look out the window. I thought he was showing me a rainbow, but it was just our old neighbor getting out of his hot tub in a speedo. Lucky me.
IN: The Knicks?? I cannot imagine what living in New York feels like right now, but these games have been WILD. And since I’m a hater, I’ll bring your attention to this takedown (from 2025) of one particular Spurs player: “On the court, Victor Wembanyama has no bag. He has no grace of movement. The most impressive athletic feat he accomplished was flexing his pituitary gland at 14. His movements are so clunky and unrelatable that it sometimes feels like my YouTube TV is buffering when I watch him. His whole thing — and this is the god-honest truth — is that he’s so big and long that he deters would-be scorers from even attempting shots near him.” HIS WHOLE THING. OUT: Celebrity fawning during the broadcast. I certainly don’t mind seeing the longtime Knicks fans: Witnessing Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan, and — fine — Tim-oh-teh losing their minds rocks. But I don’t care to see Taylor Swift with courtside seats that were likely comped when you know she really does not care. Unless she’s pretending to faint like Larry David, I don’t need all the cutaways of Taylor getting drunk on vodka sodas.
IN: Good carb + seasonal produce. Now that we’re getting some great spring-summer produce, I’m really enjoying this cooking formula. Gnocchi and asparagus! Multigrain croutons in a big spinach salad! Farro tossed with sauteed kale! Obviously there are more ingredients in all of these, but you get the idea. OUT: An unsatisfying meal at a restaurant. I’m eating out far less, to save $$, and it is so deeply discouraging when one of those few instances just doesn’t hit the spot. We grabbed lunch on Saturday and I wasn’t quite feeling the menu. I settled on a caesar salad and it was fine. And then I pouted.
IN: A new patio set-up. We got new furniture for the deck (before I knew I was being laid off!!) and it feels like walking into a very small resort. With how nuts everything has been lately, it is my little oasis, my sweet escape, my teeny-tiny getaway. OUT: This goddamn rain. Chicago is getting pumelled. I spotted a tree snapped in half on our walk this morning, and a man driving down the road with a sizeable limb snagged in his passenger door handle. Dottie also decided — as of this year (???) — to be terrified of thunderstorms. I got her one of those calming hoodies but it just makes her look like a terrified Little Edie.

IN: Reaching out. I had to call in some favors this week and I don’t love it! But sometimes we gotta ask our network for some help. May the people in my life know the karmic points they are being awarded!!! OUT: Overhearing. Dave abruptly came home right as I was recording a voice note and I quickly wrapped it up. He asked who I was talking to and I had to fess up to the recording. He’s not supposed to be around for my voice notes!! But it did remind me of this completely relatable Bluesky post:
sean caught me watching one of my ‘just for me’ shows. no that makes it sound like porn it’s not it’s just the stuff i watch after he goes to bed. he looked at the screen and said ‘what’s this’ i panicked and said ‘you’re not supposed to be here’

Publishing note: I have both unexpected and planned travel this weekend and next, so my publishing schedule will be a bit off. Sorry to disappoint!
