What's IN/OUT this week

Insta Graham

Clearly I’m still working out the kinks of “getting back on track” as there continues to be A Lot Happening Right Now. The word of the day/week is INDIGNITIES.

IN: The possibility of making Daylight Saving Time permanent. I played around with this interactive feature from CNN that shows how much more/less daylight you would have during your particular morning and evening routines, and depending on your location. Should DST be made permanent, it would mean a few dark a.m. dog walks me, yet the sun would stay out later! This is a tough one, as I love morning sun but also hate an early sunset. The only clear solution is for me to move around the country throughout the year for optimal sunlight. OUT: Zero sunlight. Even on these long summer days, not far from the equinox, we cannot enjoy the sunshine because of the wildfire haze. It’s complete abomination that had better clear up by the time you’re reading this!!!

IN: A little something for the fans. “We might be getting two new Lana Del Rey albums very soon.” Sure, OK, why not. And speaking of women who are extremely good at spiraling and putting it to music, Fiona Apple is also doing her best right now. It all makes me think of this post. OUT: A little something for the non-fans. I had an event for the job I’m losing this week, and I was in charge of handling social media (talk about INDIGNITIES. *Pee-wee’s Playhouse screaming intensifies*). Model Ashley Graham showed up to promote her new line of lambrusco and the event coordinator insisted I take some photos of her for our Instagram account. Of course Ashley’s people assumed I was a HUGE FAN and insisted I chat with her.

Ashley: Would you like a sample?
Me: Sure, I like lambrusco.
Ashley: I like lambrusco people.
Me: All right.

This is the way people look at you when they think you are a huge fan.

IN: Manifesting (new moon). Talk of the new moon came up on Monday among friends, and dear Roju was able to break down the details of what that meant this month. Apparently we were to be manifesting things that we’ve been working toward and are ready to step into (sorry to Roju if I am butchering this. But my understanding is that astrology leaves room for interpretation — so please enjoy my version). Well that is great news for me. I know exactly what I want (new job). OUT: Manifesting (eclipse season). Lotta rules in astrology! But how does one stop oneself from manifesting? As a person of constant yearning… is that bad? Does general wanting of stuff count as manifesting??

IN: Zucchini!!!! I’ve decided to really lean into zucchini this summer. I made this pasta for Monday’s Fancy Lunch™ and it is shooting to the top of my good pasta recipe list. I am also realizing my appreciation for great pasta deepens substantially in the summer, when produce is at its peak (other than whatever produce is giving people the parasite that gives you diarrhea). OUT: Eggplant. Once again, I will not be casting my vote for eggplant as the vegetable of the year. I love baba ganoush but otherwise that is not a nightshade for me. Change my mind/make me dinner.

Tell me what you hated this week!
