What's IN/OUT this week

Omar comin'

Left the apartment yesterday and immediately spent $200. Let me stress how much this needs to be a picnic summer.

IN: T-shirts and fun skirts. This may be my new uniform for spring/summer. I realize I am now dressing like a toddler who got to pick out their own clothes (hell yeah). Please keep an eye out for very cool skirts for me. I’m looking for something fringey, a la this photoshoot with Rachel Tashjian for Spread the Jelly. OUT: Bacon neck. Many of my simple white T-shirts from the Gap transition to bacon necks after a single wash — you know, when the neckline loses all structure, gets wavy, and looks (is) cheap. Y/N: Is it time to finally purchase nicer, more expensive white tees? Please remember that I am prone to spills (again, like a toddler).

IN: This album from Peki Momés. I landed on an Instagram reel that recommended a few records and — having been in a bit of a music rut lately (again) — I sampled the suggestions and am really digging Peki. Give it a listen — this is my favorite track. OUT: The new Charli XCX. I’m sorry, I don’t get it — blame it on my advanced age! I just don’t need a bunch of Easter eggs or lore or (apparently??) trolling to enjoy music. The song is bad!!!

IN: The Wire. I am only two decades late to this, but wow does this show rock. I’m so dedicated to watching it that Dave bought me a T-shirt with Omar walking down the street with his rifle and trench coat. I paired it with a black tulle skirt when we got calamari and Manhattans yesterday evening. OUT: Reading books. Not on purpose! But between my dedication to watching episodes of The Wire and ordering too many nonfiction books from the library… my page-flipping has stalled. I really need a juicy novel to recalibrate.

IN: Cursive, apparently! I just learned that cursive was not included when the Common Core standards were adopted in 2010, so kids just don’t know how to loop those letters. I don’t have any particular stance on this, but I am curious to know how they manage their signatures?? Are young people signing their names to important documents by printing? I remember spending some serious time in middle school deciding on how to craft my middle initial for my own signature (went pointy on the top and swoopy on the bottom for the “J”). Anyhow, it turns out that some states have returned cursive writing to their curriculums, while students elsewhere have created cursive clubs. OUT: A single cursive font option when signing PDFs in Adobe. It’s not even really cursive, it’s sort of just an aggressive italic.

Tell me what you hated this week!
